Daniel Rubin, a member of the New York State Bar, received his Juris Doctorate from Fordham University School of Law. He has experience at Grubman, Indursky, Schindler, and Goldstein PC., where he devoted the majority of his time to the the music clearance process. While working at Grubman, Daniel developed excellent relations with licensing and business affairs departments at most major record labels and publishing companies. Since co-founding Sample Clearance Limited in 1992, Daniel has licensed music for projects in virtually every media. His sample clearance credits include the multiplatinum Kid Rock CD "Devil Without A Cause" and Kelis' smash "Tasty". His film credits include "Any Given Sunday", "Can't Hardly Wait", "Black and White" and "Zebrahead". In television, Daniel cleared much of the music included in Russell Simmons' Def Comedy Jam.
Daniel's expertise in sample clearance has led to him being retained as a consultant by several record companies, including Warner Brothers, Sony Music, and EMI-Capitol, with regard to policing the use of unauthorized samples. This has led to many high-profile infringement claims that have resulted favorably for our clients.
Recently, Daniel has expanded his resume to include music supervision duties on videogame titles. His credits in this area include "Playboy: The Mansion", "America's Army", "25 to Life", "And 1 Streetball" and the upcoming "Tomb Raider: Legends". He was also retained by Namco America, Inc. to select and license songs for their "Pac-Tones" ringtone application.
